16 Trucks 25 Tons 55 Ministries 420 Miles

The main group meets at 5:30am in Redlands and caravans down to Escondido to meet up with the others. At breakfast, delivery assignments are distributed, and last minute instructions are discussed. Around 7:45am the group proceeds to Otay Mesa to cross the border. At the border, permits are checked, trucks are inspected, and fees are paid. From there, the drivers go off in different directions. Some make deliveries in Tijuana, while others purchase the flour, pasta, eggs and meat, food that must be purchased in Mexico. Trucks are either part of the "short run," which goes from Tijuana to Tecate, making deliveries along the way and in Tecate (usually 3 trucks), or the "long run," which goes south towards Ensenada to meet and distribute food to 18 ministries located south of Ensenada. It looks like a very busy swap meet! A most welcomed dinner is provided for those on the long run just across the border at the Tecate Mission. Most drivers usually arrive back in Redlands around 8:30pm.

Several groups regularly meet up with the MCCA members to lend a hand unloading. Ralph Porter, Director of Twentynine Palms Ministries, often brings Marines from the local base, while some help is given by family and friends of the drivers. However, we usually have open seats which can be filled by you or your group by contacting Judy Arnett at info@mccaredlands.org. Check our calendar and be sure to make an appointment to experience this ministry first hand. *Please note, new laws now require a passport for entry back into the United States from Mexico.

As you may have noticed, this is the "regular trip" scenario. Special trips occur as needed to distribute other items that get donated. This year MCCA also assisted in the distribution of bunk beds, playground equipment, and school chairs in specially organized trips |
